P0440 Diagnostic Code on 2007 Jeep Wrangler 3.8L After Hydrolock and Engine Replacement

Model: WRANGLER Fault Code: P0440 Posted: 2012-05-21 20:03

Hi everyone, I own a 2007 Jeep Wrangler with a 3.8L V6 engine and 6-speed transmission. A few months ago, I hydro-locked the engine, which led to a complete engine replacement by a dealer. After the new engine installation, I attempted to pass emissions testing but failed because the system indicated that the emission control computer hadn't been properly reset after the engine change. Since then, the gas cap warning light has come on. I replaced the fuel cap, but the Check Engine Light (CEL) remains illuminated and now shows a P0440 code — indicating an evaporative emissions system malfunction. My concern is that during the hydrolock incident, my vehicle was submerged in about three feet of water. Could this have caused water to enter the charcoal canister, which is mounted under the vehicle? I noticed water in the fuel tank at the time. Would replacing the evaporation (EVAP) canister resolve the P0440 issue? Any technical insights or experiences with similar cases after hydrolock repairs would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your help!
