Hi everyone, I own a VW Polo TDI 1.2 (Engine Code CFWA 1.2L TDI - CR / 55kW). The engine malfunction light has recently come on, so I took it to the service center for diagnosis. The fault code displayed is: P040500 - Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) System Circuit Low (1000-1000, passive/sporadic). Start with a visual inspection of the wiring harness and connectors for any signs of damage or corrosion. Check if a stable 5V reference voltage is being supplied to the EGR sensor. If the wiring appears intact, consider removing the EGR valve and cleaning it either using brake cleaner or a dedicated EGR cleaning solution. Cleaning can often be done in situ.
