EVAP Leak Small Diagnosis in a 9-Year-Old Chrysler Vehicle: Possible Causes and Solutions

Model: unknown Fault Code: P0440 Posted: 2011-09-12 11:54

Could an EVAP leak small be the source of the issue in my 9-year-old Chrysler vehicle? The rust erosion on the fuel system appears significantly more severe than expected for its age—almost resembling 20 years of exposure. I've attached a photo showing the condition of the area near the fuel line and venting component. URL: http://s915.photobucket.com/albums/ac35/Funnel.jpg I'm seeking advice on whether this rusted section could be responsible for the EVAP leak small code. Any guidance on how to confirm or rule out this possibility would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, it's definitely possible. I've encountered similar cases before. To verify, try introducing a small amount of air—under 3 psi—into the EVAP system and then apply soapy water to any rusted or corroded areas. Bubbles will indicate a leak if present.

Could you please specify what component this refers to? If I need to order a replacement part, knowing the exact name and model would be very helpful.
