Wrangler 2.8CRD P0234 Turbo Overboost Fault: Random Occurrence at 100-120kph with Battery Disconnect Solution
Hi everyone, I've been researching this issue extensively and have found that my 2020+ Jeep Wrangler 2.8CRD occasionally triggers the P0234 turbo overboost fault while driving at cruising speeds between 100 to 120 km/h. The problem appears randomly—sometimes it happens after just a few minutes of steady highway driving, and other times it doesn't occur at all during the same conditions. When this happens, I immediately stop the vehicle, disconnect the battery, wait for 10 minutes, then reconnect it. After that, the engine returns to normal operation. In some cases, the engine warning light turns off immediately after reconnection; in others, it may take two or three engine starts before the fault clears. I've already checked the wastegate linkage as recommended since my turbo actuator is electronic and I don't have vacuum hoses. However, what puzzles me is whether this issue is more rooted in electronic system behavior (like sensor readings or ECU timing) rather than mechanical failure—especially given that a simple battery disconnect seems to resolve it so reliably. Any insights from owners of similar 2.8CRD Wrangler models with P0234 faults would be greatly appreciated, particularly regarding potential electronic vs. mechanical causes and long-term solutions.
