P0700 Code on Jeep Grand Cherokee: Check Engine Light On, Normal Drive but Occasional Power Loss - What Should I Do?

Model: truck Fault Code: P0700 Posted: 2015-08-24 14:49

I own a 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee and recently picked up a P0700 diagnostic code. The check engine light comes on intermittently (sometimes on, sometimes off), and the truck drives normally most of the time. However, occasionally it experiences a noticeable loss of power, especially when accelerating or under load. The P0700 code is a generic OBD2 code indicating potential transmission-related issues. While the vehicle generally performs well, I'm concerned about what this could mean for long-term reliability and performance. I've tried clearing the code using the key-on-off trick, but it returns shortly after driving. I have no remote starter installed, and transmission fluid levels are within normal range. The truck is 4WD, which may be relevant. What could be causing this P0700 issue? Is it a faulty transmission sensor, wiring problem, or something else? How can I properly diagnose and fix it without damaging the system? Any advice on using an OBD2 scanner (like those available at AutoZone) to retrieve accurate codes would be greatly appreciated.

I have a 2006 Grand Cherokee with the same P0700 code. The truck drives fine most of the time, but the check engine light stays on. Does anyone know what causes this and how to fix it? Thanks for any insights.

The P0700 code is a generic transmission-related fault that often points to issues with transmission control modules or sensors. The key-on-off trick may not retrieve all stored codes. Use an OBD2 scanner — free ones are available at places like AutoZone — to get accurate diagnostics. Also, if you have a remote starter, it could interfere with the transmission relay. Check whether your Power Distribution Center (PDC) has proper power to the transmission relay.

I'm experiencing the same issue on a 2015 Ram 1500. I cleared the P0700 code, but it returns immediately after restarting without any driving. Transmission fluid is at proper levels. The truck has four-wheel drive — does that affect the diagnosis?

Do you have a remote starter? That can sometimes cause transmission-related issues. Check if the transmission relay in your Power Distribution Center (PDC) is receiving power. Also, please confirm your vehicle's year, model, and engine type — this helps narrow down potential causes. Avoid relying solely on the key-on-off trick; use an actual OBD2 scanner for reliable code reading.
