Toyota Land Cruiser 3.0 D4-D (2001) Fault Codes P0100, P0110, P1115, P1405: Diagnosis and Symptoms Explained

Model: Toyota Land Cruiser Fault Code: P0100 Posted: 2006-10-06 11:27

Hi everyone, I'm seeking help with a recurring set of fault codes on my Toyota Land Cruiser 3.0 D4-D (2001) model. Driving symptoms: - I notice small fluctuations in acceleration when the engine is nearly idle or cruising at a constant speed (e.g., 50 mph on flat terrain). This issue becomes more noticeable when the engine is still cold. - The problem does not occur when the accelerator is fully pressed or when driving with over 25% throttle input. - If I maintain the car in this fluctuating state for an extended period, it may lose power—this seems to be caused by the turbocharger 'shutting off'. The issue resolves itself after releasing the gas pedal slightly, allowing the vehicle to lose some speed or downshift. Important notes: - Minor fluctuations do not trigger fault codes. - The problem does not occur when the vehicle is in neutral. - After removing and re-installing the intake system (including the turbo), the issue disappears temporarily but returns after a few miles. - A professional inspection confirmed that the turbocharger itself is functioning properly. My current hypothesis: - The Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor may be faulty, as it plays a critical role in air flow monitoring and engine performance. I believe replacing the MAF sensor could resolve this issue. Fault codes observed: - P0100: Mass or Volume Air Flow Circuit Malfunction - P0110: Intake Air Temperature Circuit Malfunction - P1115: Ambient Temperature Sensor Circuit Malfunction (as reported by diagnostic tool) - P1405: Turbo Pressure Sensor Circuit Malfunction Any insights, experiences, or suggestions from owners of this model would be greatly appreciated.

It's a 2001 model year, specifically the 3.0 D4-D variant.

Thanks for sharing—this is a well-documented issue in older Land Cruiser models with similar symptoms and codes. Your detailed description helps clarify potential root causes.

Hi nborges I've been experiencing exactly the same symptoms for the past four months, and my dealer has not been able to identify or fix the problem. They’ve replaced the injection pump valves twice, but the issue persists. I also had the MAF sensor replaced—no improvement. How did you resolve this? Any specific steps or parts you recommend?
