2002 Town & Country Limited - P0601 Code: PCM Failure Diagnosis and Refurbished Unit Options
Hi everyone, I own a 2002 Chrysler Town & Country Limited. Two days ago, my temperature gauge stopped working. I took it to a mechanic who advised replacing the instrument cluster. After driving out of the shop, about half an hour later, the check engine light came on — it wasn't there before. Upon returning, the diagnostic tool showed code P0601, which indicates a potential issue with the Engine Control Module (ECM) or Powertrain Control Module (PCM). The mechanic suggested that the PCM itself may need replacement. I have two questions: 1. Could this P0601 code be caused by an incorrect programming error during installation — is it possible the PCM was improperly programmed and now triggering the fault? 2. If a new PCM is required, has anyone successfully used refurbished or reprogrammed units (plug-and-play type) that are compatible with my vehicle? Any insights or experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
P0601 typically indicates an internal failure of the PCM. While early symptoms may not appear, over time you'll likely experience drivability issues and end up stranded. A full PCM replacement is recommended. Dealerships charge a high price and require programming — often done in-house. I’ve found that companies like AllComputerResources.com (based in Florida) offer refurbished and fully programmed PCMs tailored to your VIN and key codes. They are reliable, cost-effective, and have been used successfully on multiple Chrysler/Dodge models. This has become especially common in older vehicles with PCM-related issues. Just my two cents.
