Subaru 1999 EVAP System Vent Control Fault Code P1443 Diagnosis and Fix

Model: Subaru Fault Code: P1443 Posted: 2006-06-24 09:17

I own a 1999 Subaru and recently encountered fault code P1443, which corresponds to an 'EVAP system vent control function problem'. I had the code read at a local mechanic and then reset. After 24 hours with no recurrence of the code, I'm wondering what steps I should take to properly diagnose and resolve this issue. The code indicates a potential malfunction in the evaporative emission control system's vent control function—could it be related to the gas cap, hoses, or sensor performance?

Check if the fuel cap is securely tightened. A loose or damaged cap can trigger P1443 due to EVAP system leaks.

My husband removed and resecured the gas cap, and we've since filled up with fuel. The check engine light has not returned, suggesting the issue may have been resolved or at least temporarily fixed. I’ll continue monitoring for any recurrence of the code.
