2001 Silverado 2500HD 6.0L V8 Power Loss and P0107 MAP Sensor Misfire: How to Fix It

Model: Silverado Fault Code: P0107 Posted: 2019-04-23 14:17

I own a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD with a 6.0L V8 gasoline engine. Recently, the truck has experienced significant power loss, misfiring cylinders, and a diagnostic trouble code P0107 related to the Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensor. I tested the sensor by unplugging it — with the key on, it reads 5 volts. The sensor appears heavily contaminated with black gunk, so I cleaned it thoroughly. After reinstallation, the issue persists. I'm at a loss for what to do next and would appreciate any expert advice on diagnosing or fixing this problem. Thanks in advance.

To accurately diagnose the issue, it's important to check what the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) is actually receiving from the MAP sensor — a OBD2 scanner can quickly provide this data. Also, please confirm if there are any additional diagnostic codes present. Given the visible contamination you described, ensure that vacuum supply to the sensor’s clean port is intact and properly connected. As a next step, consider replacing the MAP sensor entirely, as it may be beyond repair despite cleaning.

Thanks for the helpful tips! I've confirmed that vacuum is good at the sensor port. I’ve already ordered a replacement MAP sensor to install.
