I own a 1996 Chevrolet Silverado with a 350 Vortec engine. I'm experiencing frequent surging and stalling while idling. The intake gaskets were replaced about two years ago, and I've thoroughly checked for vacuum leaks with no success. Recently, the vehicle has triggered a P0101 fault code related to the Mass Airflow (MAF) sensor. Could this MAF sensor be directly responsible for the idle instability issues? Any insights or troubleshooting steps would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, a faulty or dirty MAF sensor can sometimes cause idling problems and surging. Try cleaning the sensor with an appropriate cleaner; avoid using harsh chemicals. If you have a K&N air filter, removing it temporarily may help, as oil buildup on the filter can interfere with the heating element of the MAF sensor. Clean the sensor thoroughly and retest.
