What Does 'PD' Mean in P0128 PD? Understanding Pending vs. Hard Codes for 2002 Chevrolet Xtreme

Model: PO128PD Fault Code: P0128 Posted: 2009-04-11 13:11

Hi everyone, I've been researching code P0128 and have gathered some additional information to share — thanks to all who contributed! Recently, my 2002 Chevrolet Xtreme has triggered both a P0128 and a P0128 PD. Can anyone clarify what the 'PD' at the end of P0128 means? I'd appreciate any insight into how this code behaves in relation to engine performance or diagnostics. Thanks, Mike

The first P0128 is a 'hard' code — it means the conditions were met and triggered the Check Engine Light (CEL). The second P00128 PD is a 'pending' code, indicating that the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) detected potential issues but didn't meet full criteria to set a hard fault. Think of it as the PCM giving you an early warning — a 'heads up' that a problem might develop in the near future.

Thanks, Mohawk! That makes perfect sense. As I continue learning how to interpret and process diagnostic codes, I'm realizing I'll probably have more questions — some of which may seem basic at first. But I truly appreciate the knowledge and patience shared here. Thanks again, Mike.

There's absolutely no such thing as a 'dumb' question — only people who are committed to learning ask them. The rest simply remain uninformed. Glad I could help — this forum exists precisely for shared knowledge and community support.
