Pajero NT 3.2 Diesel: Cruise Control Drops Out on Incline & EGR Hunting Issue - Fault Code or Sensor Problem?

Model: Pajero Fault Code: P2177 Posted: 2017-02-12 21:56

I'm experiencing two seemingly related issues with my Pajero NT 3.2 diesel, and I'm wondering if they're connected: 1. While towing a caravan in cruise control and ascending an incline, the engine revs drop unexpectedly, causing the vehicle to lose cruise control. This happens when I don't manually downshift early — which I know is my fault. After this occurs, the Check Engine Light (CEL) comes on, along with several warning lights. However, after allowing the engine to cool for about a minute, all lights turn off. My Foxwell scan tool does not detect any stored fault codes. I've simply cleared the CEL and continued driving. 2. When not towing, the vehicle exhibits 'hunting' behavior in cruise control — fluctuating between different throttle settings when traveling on an incline: up, flat, up, flat, etc. This is only noticeable without a load. Diagnostic data: - EGR PID at 80 km/h while towing: 0% - EGR PID at 100 km/h without towing: between 25% and 35% - EGR PID on idle: 37%–40% - EGR PID when descending with throttle closed: 0% - EGR Error (EGR ERR) at 80 km/h while towing: -0.6 to 1.6% - EGR ERR at idle and during downhill coasting: 0% Given this data, I'm wondering if the issue could be related to the EGR valve — is it possible that a faulty or stuck EGR valve is causing both the cruise instability and the EGR PID anomalies? Any insights from owners of Pajero NT 3.2 diesel models with similar symptoms would be greatly appreciated.
