P0113 and P033- Olds Mobile Achieva SL 3.1: How to Fix Emission Failure and Clear Check Engine Light

Model: OldsMobile Achieva Fault Code: P0113 Posted: 2007-03-08 21:16

Hello, I own an Olds Mobile Achieva SL 3.1 and recently failed my emission test due to two persistent OBD2 diagnostic codes: P0113 and P0336. The check engine light has been on for approximately five months. In a previous year's emission test, the P0336 code was present but the vehicle passed — suggesting that resolving this issue may allow it to pass again this year as well. As I am not a certified mechanic, I would like to know how I can diagnose and fix these issues myself. What parts should I inspect or replace? Are there any specific steps for a non-specialist? Any guidance or advice on where to start would be greatly appreciated. Best regards, Afshin

P0113 refers to the Intake Air Temperature (IAT) Sensor 1 Circuit High Input, and P0336 indicates a Crankshaft Position Sensor A Circuit Range/Performance issue. These faults are typically caused by electrical problems or failed sensors.

Thank you for the explanation. Where exactly are these sensors located? Can I safely replace them myself?

The Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor is relatively easy to replace and is located on the air intake duct. However, the crankshaft position sensor (CKP) in a 24X model is more complex and may not be recommended for beginners without proper tools or experience.
