2000 Olds Bravada P0171 and P0174 Codes: Fuel Pump or MAF Sensor Issue? Car Won't Start

Model: olds bravada Fault Code: P0171 Posted: 2008-07-23 20:08

I own a 2000 Olds Bravada. Today, the check engine light came on, and I've been diagnosed with trouble codes P0171 and P0-than-174. Later that day, my car would not start at all. Could these OBD-II codes indicate a failing fuel pump? Or could the Mass Airflow (MAF) sensor be causing the starting issue? What should I check first to diagnose this problem?

The best place to start is checking the fuel pump. However, don't overlook that you may have two separate issues: one related to the car not starting and another involving the diagnostic codes. Begin with the fuel pump—this is a common cause of no-start conditions. Once you confirm or rule out the fuel pump, you can investigate whether lean codes like P0171 and P0174 are present. Please update your progress once you've tested this.

I agree—diagnose the no-start issue first. If the fuel pump is weak, it could lead to lean air-fuel mixture conditions, which may trigger P0171 and P0174 codes. However, the root cause of the starting failure must be identified before concluding whether it's a fuel delivery or sensor-related problem.
