Nissan P0446 and P0440 Error: EVAP Canister Hose Missing or Disconnected?

Model: Nissan Fault Code: P0440 Posted: 2008-07-28 04:58

I'm currently troubleshooting a persistent check engine light on my Nissan vehicle, showing fault codes P0446 and P0440. After inspecting the EVAP (Evaporative Emission) system, I couldn't locate the EVAP canister itself. Instead, I noticed a disconnected rubber hose with a U-shaped metal connector at one end. The other end is attached to a fitting on top of the transmission bell housing. While I know this hose should connect to another rubber hose leading to the EVAP canister, I'm unable to find its endpoint. This disconnection seems to be causing the P0446 and P0 or 440 codes. Can anyone confirm where this hose should reattach? Is this a likely cause of my fault codes?

I own a 1997 Nissan Sentra GXE and recently dealt with the EVAP vent valve issue. The vent valve is located behind the rear driver-side trunk, near the fuel tank. I removed it, cleaned it, and found that the solenoid wouldn't activate when reconnected to the wire harness—though I was measuring 11.5 volts at the connector. When I powered it directly from a battery (12.5V), the solenoid worked properly. I then reinstalled it but cut the ground wire from the harness and wrapped it around a screw for grounding. Now, the vent valve receives 12.5V and activates immediately when turning the key. However, the unit is getting very hot, and the P0446/P0440 codes still persist. The emissions test is coming up at the end of the month—any suggestions on how to resolve this or verify proper operation would be greatly appreciated.

Has anyone else experienced this issue with the EVAP hose disconnection and persistent P0446/P0440 codes? Any updates or solutions?
