Nissan Sentra 1997 P1110 Diagnostic: IAT Sensor or Intake Valve Timing Solenoid?

Model: Nissan Sentra Fault Code: P1110 Posted: 2010-05-10 17:50

I have a 1997 Nissan Sentra that runs well, but recently the check engine light came on and the vehicle is throwing fault code P1110. I'm looking for help identifying the root cause—could it be the Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor or the intake valve timing control solenoid? The car has no noticeable performance issues, so I'd like to troubleshoot this accurately before replacing parts.

P1110 indicates a fault with the Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor—either an open or short circuit in the sensor or its wiring.

I just got the same P1110 code on my 2000 Nissan Sentra. I replaced the MAF sensor two weeks ago, so this is a new issue. If you're narrowing it down to the IAT sensor—yes, that's the air intake temperature sensor.

Correct—IAT stands for Intake Air Temperature. Before replacing the sensor, I recommend checking the wiring harness and connectors first, as loose or corroded connections are common causes of P1110 in older Nissan Sentras.

Thanks for the clarification. After researching online, I found that P1110 can also point to the intake valve timing control solenoid. How can I determine whether it's the IAT sensor or this solenoid? Is there a way to test the solenoid without disassembling it? I don't want to replace parts unnecessarily—any guidance would be appreciated.
