Nissan Patrol 2010 Check Engine Light: P0090, P0087, P1197 - Fuel System and EGR Issues

Model: Nissan Patrol Fault Code: P0087 Posted: 2016-09-18 00:43

I own a 2010 Nissan Patrol LE. Recently, the check engine light has come on, and when I press the accelerator fully, the vehicle only reaches 200-3000 RPM. The dealership or mechanic previously mentioned a 'fuel regulator issue' but could not retrieve any diagnostic codes during their inspection. I am now seeking help from experienced owners who may have encountered similar problems. I recently used a professional scanner and retrieved the following fault codes: P0090 (Fuel Pump Control Issue), P0087 (Low Fuel Pressure), and P1197 (Fuel Trim 2 - Exhaust Gas Recirculation Sensor Malfunction). Additionally, during a visual inspection of the EGR system, I found that the lifter cap appears to be damaged internally. I am unsure whether this is directly related to the performance issue or if it's a secondary concern. I would appreciate any insights on how these codes relate to engine behavior and whether replacing the fuel pump, adjusting fuel pressure, or repairing the EGR system could resolve the problem.

If you were unable to retrieve a diagnostic code when the check engine light is on, that's not possible — there must be a stored fault code. The 'fuel regulator issue' comment likely came from an unverified source or misinterpretation. Please ensure you use a reliable OBD2 scanner to read the actual codes. A standard scan tool should retrieve P0090, P0087, and P1197 if present.

You're absolutely right — I apologize for the confusion. I forgot to note down the actual codes during my initial visit. I’ve now re-scanned the vehicle using a professional OBD2 scanner and confirmed the presence of P0090, P0087, and P1197. I’ll update this thread with further details as I progress with repairs or troubleshooting.

After re-scanning, the codes I found are: P0090 (Fuel Pump Control Issue), P0087 (Low Fuel Pressure), and P1197 (Fuel Trim 2 - Exhaust Gas Recirculation Sensor Malfunction). During a physical inspection of the EGR system, I noticed that the lifter cap is cracked internally. While this may not be directly causing the RPM limitation, it could contribute to performance issues or emissions faults. I’m now considering whether to replace both the fuel pump and the EGR components.

I'm experiencing the same symptoms — engine stalls at high RPMs and check engine light is on. My vehicle is a 2010 Nissan Patrol, and I’ve also seen P0087 and P1197 codes. Any advice on how to fix this or what parts to replace would be greatly appreciated.

I'm having the same issue with my 2010 Nissan Patrol — engine struggles to reach higher RPMs and check engine light is illuminated. Did anyone manage to resolve it? Any updates on whether replacing the fuel pump or EGR system helped?
