2001 Nissan Maxima P0505 Code: What It Means and How to Fix It
I own a 2001 Nissan Maxima and have been consistently receiving the P0505 diagnostic trouble code. Can someone please explain what this error means and what steps I should take to resolve it? The vehicle runs, but idle stability is occasionally inconsistent.
DTC P0505 refers to the Idle Air Control Valve (IACV) or Auxiliary Air Control (AAC) Valve. If the engine idle is stable—no RPM surging or stalling—and there are no other performance issues, this may indicate a minor sensor or valve problem. However, it's still recommended to inspect the IACV for carbon buildup or mechanical faults and consider cleaning or replacement if needed.
