Nissan Frontier NP300 2016 Diesel: Engine Won't Shut Off Despite Start/Stop Button - DTC U1000 and B2183
I own a 2016 Nissan Frontier NP300 diesel model (available at https://www.nissan.com.mx/np300-frontier/). The vehicle exhibits a critical issue: the engine will not shut off when pressing the START/STOP ENGINE button. All instruments and accessories power down as expected, but the engine remains running. Diagnostic scanning reveals two fault codes: U1000 and B2183. The dealership has identified the Engine Control Module (ECM) as faulty and recommends replacing it. However, I am concerned whether this is actually a failure of the ECM or if there's another underlying issue causing the engine to remain on. Since the vehicle is outside warranty, I'm seeking clarification: does the persistent engine-on condition truly stem from an ECM malfunction? Or could this be a software or sensor-related problem that doesn't require full ECM replacement?
