Mitsubishi Grandis 2007 Fault Code Explanation: C1552, C15-53, C1554 and U1073 (ABS & Communication Issues)

Model: Mitsubishi Grandis Fault Code: C1552 Posted: 2014-09-16 04:57

I own a 2007 Mitsubishi Grandis with a gasoline engine, 2.4L 4G69 engine model. I'm looking for a clear explanation of the common fault codes that can appear on this vehicle, especially those starting with C and U. Specifically, I would like to understand what these diagnostic trouble codes mean: - C1552: Hall IC output pattern error (related to crankshaft position sensor) - C1553: Optical sensor fault (likely related to wheel speed or transmission sensor) - C1554: Speed sensor out of range (indicating potential ABS or wheel speed sensor issue) Additionally, I recently encountered: - P0513: Incorrect immobilizer key detected - V1073 (corrected to U1073): Bus-off error — this indicates a communication failure between modules in the vehicle's electronic system. I've used both a garage scanner and a Bluetooth-connected PC scanner. The C-series codes were only visible on the garage device, while my DIY scanner showed P0513 and later U1073. I cleared all codes using the scanner, but the symptoms persist — orange lights for TCL-OFF (Traction Control) and Antilock Braking System (ABS/Stability Control) remain lit during engine start and turn off when the engine is shut down. My question: If a fault exists, will the error code reappear? And is there an official list of all possible diagnostic codes for the 2007 Mitsubishi Grandis with 4G69 engine? I'm also concerned about whether these C and U codes are accessible through standard DIY scanners — as many basic tools only display P-series (generic) codes, not C or U series fault codes related to ABS or module communication.

Update: The C-series codes I initially saw were retrieved using a Garage Mitsubishi-specific scanner. I later switched to a Bluetooth-connected PC scanner, which detected P0513 and subsequently added V1073. Could you please explain what these specific error codes mean?

C1552: Hall IC output pattern fault — typically indicates a problem with the crankshaft position sensor. C1553: Optical sensor fault — likely points to an issue in wheel speed or transmission sensing components. C1554: Speed sensor out of range — suggests a malfunctioning wheel speed sensor, often linked to ABS system failure. P0513: Incorrect immobilizer key detected — may indicate a faulty key or programming mismatch. Note: V1073 is likely a typo; it should be U1073 (Bus-Off). U1073 indicates a communication failure between vehicle modules, such as the ECU and body control module. As someone who works in fleet maintenance, I don't have access to Mitsubishi-specific technical resources or support for this model.

Thank you for the clarification — yes, it's U1073 (Bus-Off), not V1073. It’s possible that the garage cleared the C-series codes, which may have been temporarily stored. I’ve observed that after clearing the error codes with my scanner, the orange TCL-OFF and Stability Control (ABS) lights remain on during engine start and only turn off when I shut down the engine. The TCL switch has no effect on this behavior. Even after code clearing, the symptoms persist. If there's an underlying issue, will the fault code reappear? And is there a comprehensive list of all possible diagnostic codes for the 2007 Mitsubishi Grandis with 4G69 engine that I can refer to?

Most basic DIY scanners only display P-series (generic) fault codes (e.g., P0001–P0999). They typically do not access C-series or U-series codes, which are specific to Mitsubishi systems and often relate to ABS sensors or module communication. > Clearing the codes will erase stored memory — but if the underlying issue remains, it may reset and reappear later. Importantly, some B- and U-series faults (like U1073) do not trigger the Check Engine Light (CEL), making them harder to detect. > C-series codes are generally associated with ABS sensor issues. > U-series codes indicate communication failures between modules — these can be problematic if a remote starter is installed, as it may interfere with module signaling.
