Hi, I own a 1997 Mercury Sable with approximately 120,000 km. When I reach around 80 km/h, the 'O/D Off' warning light begins to blink and the transmission fails to shift into fourth gear. The vehicle continues to run smoothly at higher speeds but runs at elevated RPMs—no issues at lower speeds. I've checked the OBD-II diagnostic codes: - P0761: Shift Solenoid C Performance or Stuck Off - P0734: Gear 4 Incorrect Ratio - P0325: Knock Sensor 1 Circuit Malfunction Given these codes, should I expect further transmission or engine-related problems? Check the condition of your transmission fluid—darkness or contamination may indicate internal wear. The 1997 Mercury Sable has a 3.0L V6 engine (typically 12-valve configuration). Ford issued Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) #98-10-07 for both P0761 and P0734 codes. You can request a copy from your local Ford dealership or search online. For the P0325 knock sensor issue, inspect the sensor itself and its electrical connector for physical damage or bent pins. Use a digital multimeter (DVOM) to verify wiring continuity and signal integrity.
