Mercedes CLS 2005 P0022 and P2187 Fault Codes: Causes and Fixes

Model: Mercedes CLS 2005 Fault Code: P0022 Posted: 2020-05-07 17:15

Hello, I own a 2005 Mercedes CLS with a 3.5L M272 engine and am currently experiencing both fault codes P0022 and P2187. Does anyone know if these two codes are related or if one is causing the other to appear? What specific parts should I inspect or replace to resolve these issues? I'm looking for clear guidance on whether these problems are interconnected or represent separate mechanical faults.

P0022 is more critical — it indicates the inlet camshaft for Bank 2 is over-retarded. P2187 in Bank 1 shows a lean condition at idle. I recommend addressing the P0022 issue first, as it's a mechanical problem involving the camshaft position actuator or gear. Once this is fixed and the vehicle has been properly tested, you can then investigate the P218或7 code.

Could the camshaft control magnets be contributing to the P0022 code? Or is it more likely a sensor issue?

This fault is not caused by sensors. It's most likely due to a mechanical failure in the camshaft actuator or gear mechanism. A professional garage inspection is recommended for an accurate diagnosis and repair.
