P0453 OBD2 Code on 2001 Mazda Tribute: Rough Idle and Check Engine Light

Model: Mazda Tribute 2001 Fault Code: P0453 Posted: 2008-05-31 13:29

Hi everyone, I own a 2001 Mazda Tribute and am experiencing consistent idle issues. The engine runs roughly when cold in the morning, but settles into normal operation after warming up. This condition is accompanied by the check engine light illuminating. I used an OBD2 scanner to retrieve the fault code: P0453 — Evaporative System Pressure Sensor/Switch has a high input signal. This code typically indicates that the evaporative system pressure sensor is detecting abnormally high pressure, which could be due to a faulty sensor, damaged wiring, or a clogged hose connected to the sensor. I'm looking for advice on how to diagnose and fix this issue effectively. Any insights or troubleshooting steps would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Damian

The P0453 code could stem from a faulty pressure sensor, but it's also possible that the issue is related to damaged or clogged hoses connected to the evaporative system. Start by visually inspecting all hoses and connections for leaks, cracks, or blockages. If no issues are found, consider testing or replacing the pressure sensor itself. Replacing the solenoid may also help resolve the problem. Once you've completed your inspection, please share your findings here.
