2001 Mazda MPV P0302 and P0481 Fault Codes: Causes and Solutions

Model: MAZDA MPV Fault Code: P0302 Posted: 2007-04-13 13:13

I own a 2001 Mazda MPV and recently encountered two diagnostic trouble codes: P0302 (cylinder 2 misfire) and P0481 (cooling fan circuit fault). I already understand the potential causes of the cylinder 2 misfire and plan to address it this weekend. However, I'm unsure about the root cause of the P0481 code related to cooling fan #2. Could it be a faulty sensor, blown fuse, relay issue, or wiring problem? Has anyone else experienced these codes on their 2001 Mazda MPV? I've reset both codes and have not seen them return over the past two days—could this simply be a temporary computer glitch? Any insights or troubleshooting tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Check the radiator fan, relay, wiring harness, and power control module (PCM). Does the cooling fan activate when the engine is hot or during overheating conditions? A lack of fan operation may indicate a sensor failure or electrical issue.
