2002 Kia Sportage P0137 Code: Check Engine Light Flashes Then Turns Off After 5 Minutes

Model: Kia Sportage Fault Code: P0137 Posted: 2019-06-09 09:01

Hi everyone! I'm currently dealing with a 2002 Kia Sportage with 178,000 miles that consistently shows fault code P0137. I've already replaced the downstream O2 sensor, and while it has improved the situation somewhat, the issue persists. The behavior is quite unusual: when I start the car, the check engine light turns on immediately. It stays on for about 5 minutes of driving, then shuts off and remains off for the rest of the drive. However, when I turn the vehicle off and restart it right away, the check engine light comes back on. I'm looking for guidance on what to investigate next. Could this be related to a faulty sensor, an exhaust leak near the rear O2 sensor, or a restriction in the catalytic converter? Any advice on how to read freeze frame data or fuel trim values would also be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Could you please share your fuel trims, air-fuel (AF) sensor readings, and O2 sensor data? Specifically, the freeze frame data when P0137 is triggered? Possible troubleshooting steps: - Replace the faulty oxygen sensor - Inspect for exhaust leaks near the downstream O2 sensor - Check for catalytic converter restrictions and replace if necessary - Verify there are no short circuits, open wires, or high resistance in the O2 sensor signal circuit More details on P0137 here: https://www.autozone.com/p0137-oxygen-sensor-downstream-fault
