P1582 - Jetta

Idle speed adaption-limit reached things to check are: Intake or exhaust leak AIR system fuel pressure/pump injectors evap cannister purge valve throttle control unit I'm not familiar with Volkswagen at all but I think what it means is something is making the car idle too high or too low and the pcm can't compensate enought o bring the idle back to spec, look at the basics like vaccum leaks, fuel pressure etc and go from there Cheers Jeff

What I was told was that there was too much oil in the mix, which was causing the computer to react improperly and speed the idle up to the max, but I need advise on what things to do to fix that, so thanks!

Oil in the mixture of what, you mean coolant in the oil? gas in the engine oil? Not sure sounds like an engine mecahnical issue, is the pcv valve working?

Ya know, I'm really not sure. The 2 mechanics told me that my car was pretty much done, since it would likely cost too much to fix, and after that what I heard was mostly 'blah, blah, blah'. I do recall them saying the mix being too rich in oil, but I didn't ask what mix. One thing they said they could try is to replace the fuel injectors, but it may not do the trick, then maybe a ring job, so I was looking for a 2nd opinion if that was the proper course to take to fix it (or if there were any intermediate steps to try), since I really can't afford to replace the car. I'll check out the items you mentioned, to see if they can be contributors instead.

Check for a fuel pressure drop when the key is off, if so, check the pressure regualtor, sounds like the engine is getting flooded, could be injectors, I doubt all of them would be the guilty one for leaking down. Get another mechanic too look at it!
