2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited 4.0L I6 Stalling with P1389 Code - No Auto Shutdown Relay Output Voltage at PCM

Model: Jeep Fault Code: P1389 Posted: 2006-11-24 19:38

I own a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited with a 4.0L I6 engine. Occasionally, when coming to a complete stop at a traffic light, the engine stalls and fails to restart. It typically requires the vehicle to sit off for at least 5 minutes before it can be restarted successfully. I've checked the OBD2 system and found fault code P1389: 'No Auto Shutdown (ASD) Relay Output Voltage at PCM'. I replaced the ASD relay, but the issue persists. I've inspected all wiring connections and found no visible damage or loose wires. Attempting to wiggle connectors while the engine was running did not reproduce the problem under controlled conditions, suggesting it's unlikely a wiring fault. What could be causing this behavior? Are there any other components I should consider replacing or diagnosing?

The crankshaft position sensor is a common failure point on 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited models and may contribute to stalling issues, especially when the engine stops at idle. It's worth checking for signs of wear or intermittent signal loss.
