2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee P0480 Code: Fan Won't Shut Off After Engine Cools

Model: Jeep Grand Cherokee Fault Code: P0480 Posted: 2020-03-22 14:10

I'm experiencing a P0480 diagnostic trouble code on my 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The cooling fan is operational, but it remains on after the engine has cooled down and will only turn off when the engine is completely shut off. After clearing the code, the check engine light activates as soon as the fan turns back on. I've identified a low-speed fan relay in the TIPM (Terminal Interface Power Module) and another internal low-speed relay on the TIPM circuit board. My suspicion is that one of these internal relays may be sticking closed, or there could be an issue with the PCM's ground signal not shutting off properly when the engine cools down. Any insights or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Several potential causes should be evaluated. Electrical testing is essential to pinpoint the issue. TIPMs are known for internal relay failures, but diagnostics should come first. Please update with your findings. The possible causes of P0480 include: Faulty fan control relay 1 Fan control relay harness with open or short circuit Poor electrical connections in the circuit Faulty cooling fan 1 Faulty coolant temperature sensor Fan harness with open or short circuit Poor electrical connection in the cooling fan circuit Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor failure A/C selector switch malfunction A/C refrigerant pressure sensor issue Vehicle speed sensor (VSS) fault Read more: P0480 code explanation
