00 Jeep Grand Cherokee P0130, P0136, P0152, P0158

Model: Jeep Grand Cherokee Fault Code: P0130 Posted: 2014-05-04 09:38

My 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee (4.7l) had the famous dieing out while driving issue, after many hours of research it seemed replacing the PCM would have highest chance of fixing it. I ordered a rebuilt one and installed it, and the Jeep has not stalled since then. I now have ODB codes P0130, P0136, P0152, P0158, figured the O2 sensors may have died and the old PCM was that out of wack they never alerted. I replaced both O2 sensors in the Jeep and erased all the codes. The same codes are back, so now I am stuck trying to figure out what would cause all 4 of those codes to alert at the same time. If the PCM was programmed for Cal emissions would those codes alarm? I am going through the engine today to make sure cables have not been shorted out anywhere. Also replacing the spark plugs and going with a good tuneup.

clear this up - is this vehicle- check radiator tag- CALIFORNIA emissions? and was the same PCM (national or calif) used? Calif has 4 o2 sensors... the 2 codes P0130 and p0136 - not familiar with so will look it up and add later preliminary says a ASD issue need to check that... The other codes P0150 and P0158, both for post cat o2 sensor shorted to voltage... you did replace the o2 sensors? did you use jeep or aftermarket parts? I think if we clear up 2 or 4 o2 sensors and if AFTERMARKET or OEM...will help USE ONLY OEM type plugs, sensors, - filters, etc.

Nothing about California emissions on the Jeep. I bought the PCM through http://www.solopcms.com/ , they ask for the VIN so the PCM can be programmed properly. I replaced both oxygen sensors with Bosch 13139 Oxygen sensor for the downstream and a Bosch 13132 for the upstream. Thanks for some direction to go.

Why did you mention about programing for California ? I never recommend bosch - too problematic....hopefully these were NOT the wire yourself type.. advise, Check the wiring at o2s and several inches of harness for chaffing pinched- crossed etc... Check PDC fuse #16 a 10 amp for the o2 heaters... Do you have a scanner- can read data ie o2 sensor voltages? Hopefully there is NO remote starter - advise

When I purchased the PCM, they needed the VIN to program it for national or California. Hopefully it was done correctly. They where fully wired and looked like the ones I removed. I check the wire length as far as I could up into the engine area. Fuse 16 was good, I checked on the ohm meter. I am thinking I should go get a scanner as I have read about reading the O2 sensor voltages. No remote starter.

I had the voltage checked on both O2 sensors, they where both bouncing between .040 and .060 volts. The meter also showed sensor 3 and 4 with 1 volt, so I am really wondering about that PCM. I may put the old one back in and do another reading to see if I get the same reading.

Just wanted to resurrect this thread because I'm having nearly the exact same problem as 'Scottyn'. I also have a 2000 WJ Jeep grand Cherokee with the 4.7 V8, non california emmisions ( 1 sensor pre-cat, 1 after ). Came back to my Jeep after work and it cranked and never started...was deemed to be PCM failure...I did replace the crankshaft position sensor, to no avail. So I bought a used PCM from an auto recycler...I told them the model year and that it was standard emmisions. Good news was that it was installed at a Jeep dealership and the Jeep fired right up. The bad news was that it came with OBDII codes P0031, P0051, P0136, P0152, and P0158. All associated with the 02 sensors. Codes were cleared but came back. Short story long, I replaced both 02's with NTK sensors, factory connectors and same length. Almost immediately P0136 comes up...and inevitably, eventually all the same codes came back. Oh and all associated fuses and relays are 'visually' ok. I find it hard to believe that this issue is with the sensors themselves. My question is, could this be a problem of mis programming of the PCM by the dealership? Is the PCM looking for sensors that aren't there? Do they program the PCM for Cali spec or standard? OR does this have to do with the PCM itself? I'm pretty sure they verified the PCM by VIN...after all the vehicle is running. Any insight would be greatly appreciated as I'm planning on selling this vehicle soon.

A used PCM -a used PCM from an auto recycler. that would be my first suspect.

The dealership where I got my 'new' used vehice would only give me $1500 CAD for the Jeep as trade-in lol! In hindsight, maybe I should have just traded it haha. But the place where I purchased the PCM said they don't refund but would supply another PCM if this one wasn't working. So I guess I need to find out wether or not THIS PCM is the correct one....or if it's just programmed incorrectly. Anybody have any insight on the whole PCM programming thing?

there are many 'PCM remanufacturers' trade is PCM reman. and they are NOT just pulled from wrecks but allegedly tested and set up for the VIN. you will need a scanner to compare and diagnose. try this - easy fast and a fresh start ..clear codes then remove the neg battery cable for several minutes..reconnect operate and recheck codes... relist any new codes and we will suggest a plan

Hello, did you ever end up solving the issue? I am in the same boat. I have a 2002 WJ 4.7 HO and just had to replace the PCM. I now have the same codes...

Dlanor82 I suggest you start a new topic for just your issue. use this link posting.php?mode=post&f=20 Why did you change PCM - What issue prompted replacement? What codes are current ? Use a scanner* - free scans at many part stores. Vehicle is STOCK? Maybe add some history... * Key on off trick will NOT show all codes...

Hoping somebody is still paying attention to this thread. I've got the same problem on my 99 Grand Cherokee 4.7 v8. I was having problems with the car stalling unexpectedly. After replacing several parts, I finally broke down and took it to the dealership. They said the PCM was bad and needed to be replaced. I bought a used PCM and installed it. The jeep now runs great but is sending the same codes. I'm thinking the sensors are probably not the issue. Did anybody peg down the exact problem?
