Jaguar S-Type DTC P1587: What Does It Mean and How to Fix It?

Model: Jaguar S-type Fault Code: P1587 Posted: 2010-04-05 18:27

I've encountered DTC P1587 on my 2001 Jaguar S-Type and am looking for clarification on what this code means and how to resolve it. The code suggests a potential vacuum system issue, but I'm not sure where the leak might be located or how to diagnose it effectively. Can anyone with the same DTC provide insight into their troubleshooting steps or repairs? I suspect there's a vacuum leak, though I haven't been able to locate it yet.

I should have phrased that more clearly—I'm seeking input from others who've experienced DTC P1587 on their Jaguar S-Type. If you've encountered this code, what steps did you take to diagnose or fix it? I suspect a vacuum leak is involved, but I haven't been able to visually identify the source yet.

Without physically inspecting the vehicle, it's impossible to determine the exact cause of DTC P1587. While vacuum leaks are a common possibility, there could be many contributing factors. Simply relying on a code reader and purchasing a 'magic part' for the code is not reliable—there are far more diagnostic possibilities than available parts. This oversimplification doesn't reflect how vehicle diagnostics actually work.

I found a vacuum hose leak on my Jaguar S-Type—it was very small and nearly invisible unless I bent the hose (it was at a 'T' junction). Following the vacuum lines carefully can help identify any weak or cracked sections. This might be a similar issue for others with DTC P1587.
