2007 Chevrolet Impala LTZ P0101, P0171, P0300 Fault Codes - Engine Won't Run or Accelerate

Model: Impala LTZ Fault Code: P0101 Posted: 2020-05-17 15:42

My daughter's 2007 Chevrolet Impala LTZ recently had a new engine installed. After the replacement, the vehicle began displaying multiple diagnostic trouble codes: P0171 (System Too Lean Bank 1), P0101 (Mass Airflow Sensor Range/Performance Problem), and P0300 (Random/Multiple Misfires). The car initially stalled while driving and would not start. Subsequent checks revealed additional codes including P0101, P0131, and P0442. I cleaned the mass airflow sensor and air filter screen, but the issue persists. Currently, the vehicle will not run or accelerate properly—when attempting to drive, it starts with difficulty and immediately boggs down upon acceleration. The engine does idle briefly after starting, but performance drops significantly under load.

Do you have access to a scan tool that can display live data? This would help identify real-time sensor readings and fuel trim values.

Yes, I do have a scan tool capable of reading live data, but I'm unfamiliar with how to interpret the readings or what specific parameters to monitor for diagnosing these codes.

Can you confirm whether the vehicle can maintain a steady idle?

The car starts with difficulty but will idle briefly. However, as soon as I attempt to accelerate, it immediately bogs down and loses power.

Using your scan tool, monitor the ECT (Engine Coolant Temperature), MAF (Mass Airflow), RPM, and fuel trims for both banks. Perform this at full engine operating temperature. Record readings during idle and while holding the engine at 2500 RPM for 30 seconds to assess system stability and potential lean conditions.
