P0008 Fault in 2007 Holden VE Commodore LY7: Why Engine Light Only Appears After Restart?

Model: Holden VE Commodore LY7 Fault Code: P0008 Posted: 2011-07-09 06:35

Hi everyone, I'm experiencing a recurring issue with my 2007 Holden VE Commodore LY7 and would appreciate some insight into what might be causing the P0008 code (Engine Position System Performance - Bank 1). When the engine light is on, the car exhibits symptoms similar to a stretched timing chain — reduced power and a roughness during acceleration. However, this is puzzling: after clearing the code and driving normally, the vehicle performs well with no noise or roughness, and the engine light stays off. The issue only reappears when I turn off the engine and restart it after a short period — at that point, the engine light comes back on, and power is noticeably reduced. If this were a timing chain problem, I'd expect consistent symptoms while driving. The fact that the engine light doesn or performance issues occur during normal operation suggests something else is going on. Could this be related to sensor drift, a faulty camshaft position sensor, or another component in the engine position system? Any experience with P0008 on VE Commodore LY7 models? Any advice or known fixes would be greatly appreciated.
