2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited 4.7L V8: P0403 and U1417 Fault Code Explanation & Fuel Efficiency Tips

Model: GRAND CHEROKEE LIMITED Fault Code: P0403 Posted: 2016-05-27 08:34

Hello everyone, I'm looking for help understanding the fault codes P0403 and U1417 on my 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited 4.7L V8 (16-valve) gasoline engine. My vehicle currently achieves 31 liters per 100 kilometers in city driving and 20 liters per 100 kilometers on the highway (up to 112 mph). I'm wondering if these figures can be improved, especially since fuel in Brazil contains approximately 27% anhydrous ethanol. Any advice or insights would be greatly appreciated.

P0403 refers to the EGR solenoid circuit issue on a 4.7L V8 engine with VIN N and automatic transmission — note the keyword 'CIRCUIT'. Are you certain this is the correct code? Regarding U1417, codes in the U141X series indicate missing or corrupted data from a vehicle module. The last digit specifies which module is affected. I’ll look up what component corresponds to U1417 — it may be specific to export models and not widely documented in standard reference lists.

U1417 typically points to an ABS system issue, specifically implausible data from the ABS module, which could originate from either the left or front wheel speed sensor.

Thank you for the clarification! I’ve confirmed that both the EGR and ABS systems are functioning properly and have been working well. Now, regarding fuel consumption — do you have any suggestions to improve mileage under normal driving conditions?

I don’t have specific guidance on improving fuel economy with ethanol-blended fuels like those used in Brazil. However, it's worth checking local forums focused on Brazilian Jeep owners — I’m confident others face similar challenges.

Thanks a lot for the helpful input!

Just to clarify: what is your typical fuel economy (city and highway) for a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited 4.7L V8 using regular gasoline with ethanol content, when driven at an average speed of 70 mph?

For reference: https://www.fueleconomy.gov/mpg/MPG.do?details=on Note that the Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited has an export variant known as the 'WH' series, designed for international markets. Export models are typically identified by the fifth character in the VIN — if it's C or D, this indicates a model built specifically for export.
