P0130 and P0134 OBD2 Codes on 2002 GM Alero: Diagnosis and Troubleshooting

My 2002 GM Alero is not starting, and the code reader shows P0130 and P0134. I've already replaced the spark plugs, ignition coil, and ignition control module, but the issue persists. What should I check next? The vehicle has a pre-catalytic converter sensor setup, and I'm unsure whether these codes are directly causing the no-start condition or if there's another underlying issue.

P0130 and P0134 are pre-cat O2 sensor-related codes, and they typically don't cause a complete no-start. First, verify that the spark plugs are receiving proper ignition. Try spraying carburetor cleaner into the throttle body—this can help determine if the engine is responding to fuel delivery. What engine size do you have? 2.2L or 3.4L?

I have a 2.2L engine, and I suspect the vehicle isn't receiving spark at all.

A faulty crankshaft position sensor is possible. If replaced, you'll need a scan tool capable of performing a crankshaft relearn procedure. Also check fuse 41 under the hood—this is part of the ignition module circuit. Do you have access to a digital DC voltmeter?

If you had a scan tool, you could monitor engine RPM and confirm that the crankshaft position sensor (CPS) is functioning properly. I use a LabScope for this. How do you know there's no spark? Have you tried spraying carburetor cleaner into the intake manifold? Testing for spark with older ignition systems can be challenging.

In the morning, I start the engine when it's at normal operating temperature. After turning it off, I restart it and after about 3 to 4 hours, the fault code appears and activates the TC (tachometer or check engine light). I let the engine cool down, then reheat it until it reaches normal temperature before restarting—this seems to trigger the issue.
