1997 Ford F350 P0136 and P0141 Fault Codes: Oxygen Sensor Issues Explained

Model: ford Fault Code: P0136 Posted: 2005-07-29 18:55

I'm currently troubleshooting a 1997 Ford F350 that has triggered fault codes P0136 and P0141. Could the catalytic converter be causing these issues? I'd appreciate any insights on how to diagnose and fix this. P0136 refers to 'O2 Sensor Circuit Malfunction (Bank 1, Sensor 2)', while P0141 indicates 'O2 Sensor Heater Circuit Malfunction (Bank 1, Sensor 2).' Based on the codes, it's unlikely that the catalytic converter is directly responsible. The issue most likely stems from a faulty oxygen sensor or an electrical connection problem—such as a broken wire or poor grounding. I recommend checking the physical connections and ensuring the oxygen sensor is properly installed and functioning.

The catalytic converter is not typically responsible for P0136 or P0141. P0136: O2 Sensor Circuit Malfunction (Bank 1, Sensor 2) P0141: O2 Sensor Heater Circuit Malfunction (Bank -1, Sensor 2) First, verify that the oxygen sensor is securely connected. These codes often point to a broken wire or a failing oxygen sensor. A simple inspection and testing of the wiring and sensor can resolve the issue.

Thanks—confirmed it was a faulty O2 sensor. This forum has been incredibly helpful for diagnosing common Ford F350 issues.
