2003 Ford Ka P0135 and P0141 Error Codes: Causes, Fixes & Wiring Issues After Clutch Repair

Model: ford Ka Fault Code: P0135 Posted: 2009-06-12 06:43

Hi, I own a 2003 Ford Ka (Endura engine). Recently had the clutch, starter motor, and rear shocks replaced. Since then, the car only starts when pushed — the starter motor clicks instead of turning over. It runs smoothly for about 10 minutes before overheating and shutting down completely. The center dashboard becomes very hot during operation. I used an OBD-II scanner and received two error codes: P0135 and P0-141. Are these oxygen sensors faulty? Can both sensors fail simultaneously? Could the issue be related to the starter motor not turning properly? Is there a connection between the wiring or the clutch safety system? Any insights or recommended repairs would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Gary

I suspect that during the clutch replacement, the wiring harness may have been damaged. I'll take it back to the workshop that performed the work and ask them to inspect and repair it. If you did the job yourself, I recommend checking the wiring harness — it could be pinched or broken. Another possibility is a short in the wire related to the clutch safety switch, which prevents the engine from starting when the clutch is engaged. There are many potential issues — if it worked before and stopped working after repairs, it's important to review all recent work done on the vehicle.

I didn't realize the Ford Ka was sold in North America — this might be a regional model variation worth noting for owners outside the UK.

Thanks Skydrol, I had the work done at a garage. But I'll try your suggestion and inspect the wiring myself before making any further repairs. I'll update you on my findings once I've checked it out.
