2003 Ford Falcon BA Sedan with P0743 and P0773: No Start Issue After Removing Battery Terminal

Model: ford falcon ba sedan Fault Code: P0743 Posted: 2014-06-07 04:36

I'm experiencing a recurring issue with my 2003 Ford Falcon BA Sedan where the car won't start unless I first remove the battery terminal. This has happened multiple times, especially in the mornings. Once I disconnect the battery and reconnect it, the vehicle starts normally. During diagnostics, the ECU reported two fault codes: P0743 (Torque Converter Clutch System Electrical Failure) and P0773 (Shift Solenoid E Electrical Fault). The fuel pump appears to function correctly — it primes when the key is turned, and I can confirm 12V on one terminal of the coil plug. However, there's no injector pulse signal detected during startup. I'm concerned whether these transmission-related fault codes are directly causing the starting problem, especially since the engine doesn't show any spark or fuel delivery despite normal fuel pump operation. Could P0743 and P0773 be linked to the no-start condition? Any insights or troubleshooting steps for this issue would be greatly appreciated.

P0743 and P0773 are transmission-related faults and are unlikely to directly cause a no-start issue. To better understand the problem, please clarify whether your car fails to crank (no starter sound), cranks with weak power, or cranks normally but doesn't start. Additionally, check the battery condition — including voltage during cranking and age — as well as the state of the battery terminals and cables (should be clean, bright metal connections). Ensure all connections to the starter, alternator, and ground points are secure.

Hi, I'm also experiencing similar fault codes P0743 and P0773 along with a starting issue. The engine cranks but shows no spark or fuel. My car had not been used for 8 months before attempting to start. Could these transmission faults be contributing to the failure to start? Any advice would be helpful. I've recently installed a new battery (12.8V), and the issue persists.

The fuel pump primes when the key is turned, and I observe 12V on one pin of the coil plug. However, I suspect the ECU may not be providing a proper ground connection — this could explain why there's no injector pulse or spark despite normal voltage.

The engine is showing 'not ready' status in the dashboard — possibly indicating a failure to complete self-diagnostic checks.

I'm also seeing U0100-P (likely related to communication issues between modules) — could this be contributing to the starting problem or ECU malfunction?

How can I reset these fault codes? Is there a specific procedure for clearing P0743 and P0773 on a 2003 Ford Falcon BA Sedan without affecting the underlying issue?
