Ford F150 2005 Code PO405: Is It a DPFE Sensor Fault?

Model: Ford F150 Fault Code: P0405 Posted: 2010-08-26 07:30

My 2005 Ford F150 is displaying Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) PO405. I'm wondering if this code specifically points to a failure of the Diesel Particulate Filter Emission (DPFE) sensor. Can anyone confirm whether PO405 on a 2005 Ford F150 typically indicates an issue with the DPFE sensor?

Yes, in most cases, DTC PO405 on a 2005 Ford F150 is associated with a faulty DPFE sensor.

Just yesterday I encountered the same issue on my 2003 F-150. I initially replaced a melted sensor hose, but that didn't resolve the problem. I then replaced the DPFE sensor itself, yet the code persisted. If anyone finds a solution, I'd greatly appreciate hearing about it.

A melted sensor hose often indicates excessive backpressure in the exhaust system, which can contribute to or cause PO405.

If you have a scan tool and are monitoring the DPFE sensor's voltage (PID), look for a reading of approximately 1 volt. A value above this threshold suggests a faulty or malfunctioning DPFE sensor.
