2007 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer P0191 and P0451: Can These OBD Codes Prevent Engine Starting?

Model: Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer 2007 Fault Code: P0191 Posted: 2017-08-19 07:17

My 2007 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer with a 4.0L V6 engine won't start when in Park or Neutral. After scanning the vehicle, I'm seeing two OBD-II diagnostic codes: 1. P0191 - Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor Circuit Range/Performance 2. P0451 - Evaporative Emission System Pressure Sensor I want to know if these codes are directly causing the engine to fail to start. Specifically, does P0191 prevent the vehicle from starting at all? And what about P0451—does it cause the engine to stop running while driving or only trigger a warning? Any insight into how these issues affect startup and whether they require immediate repair?

P0191 is likely the primary issue. Try spraying starter fluid into the intake manifold—if the engine starts, this suggests a fuel delivery problem. Once it starts, check your fuel pressure to ensure it's within the correct range for a 4.0L V6 engine.

Thanks for the tip! I'll try that test soon.

I'm looking to fix both P0191 and P0451 on my 2007 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer with a 4.0L V6. How much would it cost to replace the components involved? Are there specific parts or labor rates I should expect?

A rough estimate is $150–$300 for parts and labor, depending on location. Labor typically ranges from 1 to 2 hours at local shop rates, plus cost of the fuel rail pressure sensor and evaporative emission system sensor.

We had a 2007 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer with P0191 and P0451. We replaced the fuel rail pressure sensor and spark plugs, and cleaned the carburetor. After that, P0191 cleared but P0451 remained. The engine still starts fine when we turn it on—no starting issues. However, I'm concerned if P0451 could cause a running engine to stall or stop unexpectedly. Does this code affect drivability? We're planning to replace the evaporative fuel tank pressure sensor next. Any advice?

Hi! I'm Jon Santos from the Philippines and I own a 2007 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer with a 4.0L V6 engine. I have P0451 showing—this indicates a faulty evaporative fuel tank pressure sensor. Does this code cause the engine to stall while driving? If so, does it only trigger when the vehicle stops and restarts? We've already replaced the fuel rail sensor and spark plugs. Any guidance on whether this issue affects engine performance or startup would be greatly appreciated.
