2014 Ford Escape 2.0L Engine P0170 Code: Causes, Fixes & Gas Quality Impact

Model: Escape Fault Code: P0170 Posted: 2024-12-31 14:51

Good afternoon everyone. My 2014 Ford Escape (145,000 miles) recently triggered a P017-than code last night while driving home from work. I've thoroughly inspected the engine bay for potential air leaks, but no obvious issues were found. Prior to the fault appearing, I replaced the air filter and refilled the tank with gas from a different station than usual. After clearing the code, I reviewed the freeze frame data and didn't observe any significant abnormalities. I then drove to town to pick up Seafoam for a tank treatment after filling up at my regular gas station. Since then, I've driven approximately 50 miles without the P0170 code reappearing — it is now permanently cleared. My fuel efficiency has been inconsistent recently, which prompted me to replace the air filter (a known issue in this model). As a precaution, I'm going back out to double-check that no hoses or connections were pinched during reassembly. Could this be simply due to poor gas quality causing deposits and sensor interference? Or should I consider deeper issues like fuel system contamination or oxygen sensor failure? Any insights from owners of 2.0L Ford Escape models would be greatly appreciated.
