P0208 Fault on 1996 Dodge Ram V10 - Diagnosis and Solutions

Model: dodge ram v10 Fault Code: P0208 Posted: 2015-08-06 20:28

Hi everyone, I'm currently experiencing a P0208 diagnostic code on my 1996 Dodge Ram V10. The issue has been intermittent, but it's now consistent. I've already replaced the #8 cylinder fuel injector, and tested the system with a second PCM—both show the same P0208 code. I used an ohmmeter to check the wiring resistance between the injector connector and the PCM plug. There is no measurable resistance in the wires, which suggests the connections are intact. The new injector also shows correct resistance values. The code tends to appear more frequently during cold weather, though it's now solid and persistent. My truck runs smoothly under normal conditions, but when I remove a spark plug wire, I notice a misfire—indicating an issue with ignition or fuel delivery in that cylinder. I'm at a loss as to what might be causing this. Any insights into potential causes for P0208 on a 1996 Dodge Ram V10 would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your help!

I wouldn't recommend swapping PCM units—this could lead to further issues and is likely unnecessary. First, check if there are any other diagnostic trouble codes present. The injector connector can become loose, corroded, or damaged within the first inch of the harness. Also, inspect the wiring from the injector to the PCM by gently tugging and shaking it while testing—look for opens or shorts to ground. These connectors are available as separate parts and are relatively inexpensive. Make sure the injector you installed is truly new—what were the resistance values before and after replacement? This helps confirm whether the issue lies with the injector itself or elsewhere. Also, please confirm the exact location of cylinder #8 so we're all on the same page.
