P0499 Fault on 2005 Dodge Ram 5.7L: EVAP Vent Valve Issue - Circuit or Sensor Problem?
I've been experiencing the P0499 diagnostic trouble code on my 2005 Dodge Ram with a 5.7L engine. The code relates to the EVAP vent valve system. My question is: Does the P0499 code indicate an air leak, an electrical fault, or does it mean the vent valve itself needs replacement? I recently installed a 'powerwire'—a resistor placed between the air temperature sensor and its wiring—and also added a transmission fluid pressure chip, claiming to improve shifting performance. The check engine light appeared approximately 4–5 days after these modifications. While I suspect this might be coincidental, I'm not certain. Any insight into whether these aftermarket parts could interfere with EVAP system diagnostics would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your help!
P0499 - NVLD CANISTER VENT VALVE SOLENOID CIRCUIT HIGH I don't typically recommend aftermarket 'miracle' parts as they often complicate diagnosis. This code points to a circuit issue. Please check for: - Control circuit shorted to battery voltage - Control circuit open - Ground circuit open - PCM (Powertrain Control Module) input/output issues
