Dakota P0138 Code: Identifying the Sensor and Fixing Random Stalling and Backfiring

Model: dakota Fault Code: P0138 Posted: 2014-07-21 05:42

I'm experiencing a P0138 OBD2 diagnostic code on my Dakota. I want to know exactly which sensor is affected and whether this code is actually causing the issues I'm seeing. My truck randomly stalls, sometimes backfires, but always restarts after a few minutes. Can someone confirm if the P0138 code points to the post-cat O2 sensor? And what steps should I take to diagnose and fix this properly?

Without knowing your engine specifics, a general response is all we can provide. A P0138 code alone should not cause random stalling or backfiring — these symptoms are concerning and may indicate deeper issues. I strongly recommend using an OBD2 scanner to check all diagnostic codes, especially those above P0999 (such as P0999), which many basic scanners fail to display. Is your Dakota stock? If so, the issue is likely related to the post-catalyst oxygen sensor (post-cat O2 sensor). For more details, refer to: https://www.obd-codes.com/p0138
