P0133 Fault on 2006 Chrysler Town & Country: O2 Sensor Replacement Issue

Model: Chrysler Fault Code: P0133 Posted: 2019-03-25 13:59

I recently replaced both oxygen (O2) sensors on my 2006 Chrysler Town & Country. Within 24 hours, the vehicle triggered a P0133 diagnostic code (Bank 1, Sensor 1 - Slow Response). I'm wondering whether this is due to a defective sensor or if it could be caused by improper seating during installation. The upstream O2 sensor was particularly difficult to access, and I suspect it may not have been fully seated in place.

Before replacing the sensors, did you check for any exhaust leaks? Even small leaks can skew O2 sensor readings and cause false codes. It's generally recommended to use original Chrysler or NTK OEM-quality O2 sensors—aftermarket brands like Denso have been known to cause issues in some vehicles. Additionally, when installing a new O2 sensor, it's essential to clear the PCM memory. This can be done by either disconnecting the C-1 connector on the PCM or briefly removing the negative battery terminal.

I initially received a P0420 code and decided to replace both O2 sensors because my catalytic converter was less than one year old. I installed Denso sensors, though I'm now concerned about the result. I haven't noticed any visible exhaust leaks. The main issue might be that the upstream sensor didn’t seat properly during installation—accessing it was challenging and I may have missed full engagement.
