P0420 Diagnostic and Fix for 2003 Chevy S10 4-Cylinder
I own a 2003 Chevrolet S10 with a 4-cylinder engine. Recently, I replaced the catalytic converter, throttle position sensor, fuel filter, and cylinders 2 and 3 spark coils. These repairs resolved my previous P0300 misfire code. However, after driving approximately 20 miles, a new P0420 code appeared. Could this be related to the newly installed catalytic converter? If not, I would greatly appreciate any insights or troubleshooting steps. Thank you for your help.
Some lower-quality catalytic converters may not resolve a P0420 fault code, but in my experience, I've successfully fixed the P0420 issue on multiple 4-cylinder vehicles by addressing underlying misfire problems that cause the converter to operate below optimal temperatures.
