Chevy S10 P0122 Fault: Check Engine Light Persistent, Transmission Lurches in Drive/Reverse

Model: Chevy S10 Fault Code: P0122 Posted: 2014-09-10 05:19

My Chevy S10 has recently triggered the check engine light. After running a diagnostic, I received fault code P0122 — indicating a throttle position sensor (TPS) issue. I replaced the TPS, but the check engine light remains on and the transmission now exhibits a lurching sensation when shifting from park to drive or reverse. The vehicle feels sluggish and unresponsive during gear changes. What could be causing this? Are there other components that might need inspection beyond just the TPS?

Could you please specify the model year of your Chevy S10? Disconnecting the negative battery terminal for 10 seconds may help clear the code. Alternatively, using a scan tool to monitor live data can confirm if the issue persists. Do you currently own or have access to a scan tool? Also, do you possess a digital multimeter (DC meter) for voltage testing?

I drive a 2001 Chevy S10. I do have a scan tool and will attempt to clear the P0122 code. However, I don't currently own a digital multimeter or DC meter.

Do you have access to a code reader or a dedicated scan tool? If using a scan tool, does it display TPS percentage or voltage readings? To properly troubleshoot the TPS, you'll need a 5k ohm resistor (available at most hardware stores like Radio Shack) and a jumper wire. Additionally, verify that there is a stable 5-volt reference signal on the TPS connector using a digital multimeter.
