P0401, P0403, and P0405 EGR Fault Codes on 2006 Chevrolet Malibu 3.5L - Diagnosis and Fixes

I recently purchased a 2006 Chevrolet Malibu with a 3.5L engine and encountered recurring EGR-related fault codes: P0401, P0403, and P0405. After installing a new EGR valve, the MIL activated shortly thereafter with the same codes. Upon inspection, I discovered a clogged port between the intake manifold and EGR system. Cleaning the port resolved the issue temporarily, but the codes returned quickly after resetting. The vehicle also showed a freeze frame for P0401 and P0405. My question is: Is this a persistent EGR malfunction, or could the recurring codes be due to the freeze frame data? What steps should I take to properly diagnose and resolve these issues?

Did you clear the DTCs using an OBD2 scanner? What specific codes are currently showing on the dashboard or in the scan tool? Are there any additional codes such as P1404 present?

I used my OBD2 scanner to clear the codes, and only P0405 remained. It appeared twice, with one instance being a freeze frame record.

P0405 indicates an issue with the EGR pintle position sensor. Ensure there is no carbon buildup obstructing the pintle's opening and closing movement. Next, perform a diagnostic check on the EGR pintle sensor wiring using a digital multimeter (DVOM). A basic test: With the engine off and in KOEO mode, measure voltage on the brown center wire (terminal C) of the EGR valve. What is the reading?

Thanks for the clarification. After reviewing the code details again, I realized it was a voltage-related issue. I had previously saved an extensive troubleshooting procedure and became overconfident because I resolved the EGR port blockage. I assumed that would fix everything—turns out, I missed the sensor wiring diagnosis. Lesson learned!
