Check Engine Code P0401 on 2005 Chevrolet Blazer - Intake EGR Passage Diagnosis

Model: Chevy Blazer Fault Code: P0401 Posted: 2019-04-15 09:58

I followed your advice and performed the EGR test. The engine did not stall, but it did run roughly and dipped in RPM slightly before stabilizing. I'm now unsure where to locate the intake and EGR passages on my 2005 Chevrolet Blazer. Could you please clarify how to identify these components? I've confirmed the fault code is P0401 (Low Engine Idle or Poor Combustion due to Intake EGR Flow Issue), but I'm not sure what steps to take next after this test.

I have an OBD2 scanner and just ran a diagnostic. After connecting it, the system reported a new code: P0301 - Cylinder 1 Misfire. This might be related to the EGR issue or could indicate a separate problem.

It's possible that the P0301 misfire appeared during the EGR test. To verify, you'll need to remove the EGR valve. Some mechanics use a speedometer cable attached to a drill for this task—there are also specialized tools available for easier access and removal.

The vehicle has both intake and exhaust systems. Focus first on the intake side of the EGR system—check for any blockages or restrictions that could be causing poor airflow.

Begin by removing the EGR valve and inspecting the exhaust tube connected to it. Then, check the intake passages for obstructions using a solid wire or speedometer cable. Spray carburetor cleaner into suspected areas to test for clogs.
