I recently purchased a 2007 Chevrolet Aveo LS and am experiencing an OBD-II diagnostic code P2188, which indicates 'System Too Rich at Idle - Bank 1'. The engine runs smoothly at higher speeds but exhibits rough idle or misfires when idling. I've already replaced the spark plugs, plug wires, air filter, and transmission filter, but the issue persists. I have not yet replaced the coil pack. Is this a fuel injection system problem? Is P2188 the only diagnostic code present? Where is the vehicle located and what engine type does it have? Start with a fuel injector cleaner, followed by checking fuel pressure and leak-down. Ensure all parts are AC Delco-compatible.

eBay is a good option—I’ve bought directly from Helm, but used copies of service manuals are often available on eBay at significantly lower prices.

After using fuel injector cleaner, the rough idle issue remains unresolved. I've been researching fuel injector pulse width (PW) effects—especially at idle, where PW values are minimal. Could a failing fuel injector due to low pulse width be causing performance issues? Any experience with this? Thanks again. John Daughenbaugh

It is extremely unlikely that pulse width (PW) is the root cause—this value is programmed into the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) and dynamically adjusted based on sensor inputs. Focus instead on fuel pressure testing and leak-down diagnostics. If possible, check for wiring issues using a 'noid' light to test injector circuits—but such faults typically trigger diagnostic codes. Also verify that the engine reaches proper operating temperature (ECT)—this should set a code if not already present.
