P0521 OBD2 Code Explanation for 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe 5.3L V8 - Oil Pressure Sensor Issue
A month ago, my oil level was low and I topped it off to the correct amount. Since then, my oil pressure gauge has been consistently reading on the lower side of the scale—now showing about a quarter of the way to the left from the middle. Previously, it would read closer to the right side of the center. Today, while driving to town, my check engine light activated, and I scanned the system—revealing code P052
The dashboard oil pressure gauge is not a precise instrument—it's an estimate. For accurate readings, it's recommended to use a mechanical oil pressure gauge. Always verify actual engine oil pressure with this tool rather than relying solely on the dashboard indicator. Regarding your experience at high speeds—such as reaching 95 mph and noticing a sudden loss of power—the issue may not be directly related to oil pressure. Engine performance can drop due to factors like tire condition, RPM limits, fuel pressure, or software-based engine management settings. These are all monitored by the ECU and may trigger a perceived 'governor' effect.
